I like your website. It's fun to find people's homepages of the Crescent City area. I lived in Crescent City all my life. I am 19 now, but I have seen some pretty interesting weather patterns, especially after I moved to Gasquet in the summer of '96. I was stuck in Gasquet for 3 days when the Serpentiene Point decided to give away. It's the mountain area just after Hiouchi towards Gasquet. I loved living in Gasquet, and I lived in the Old Schoolhouse with Jim and Linda Divelbiss, and I was friends with there teenage kids, Ryan and Sabrina. I just wanted to let you know that I think it's really cool that you are bringing up natural disasters on your site.

Hi! Came to visit your page because David told me about it - and am I glad I visited! I've already bookmarked the page and will go back to learn more about 'disasters' ... and hopefully pass the little tests. Also - I'll make sure to visit the 'pig page' - I like penguins - but I'd love to also learn about pigs....!
Take care - Shirley

Hi Kids! This is an awesome site and you should be very proud of it! When I was growing up in a Maryland suburb of Washington D.C., we had a storm which caused a lot of flooding in 1972. The storm was "Agnes" and in the Washington Area the damage was minimal. However, that summer I went to visit the home where my mother grew up in a town called Wilkes-Barre, PA, and was amazed to see the damage from the flood. Sidewalks were completely lifted up from the ground, leaving gaping holes beneath them. Houses were leveled, trees uprooted, entire blocks washed away. I was glad that my mother's house was not damaged and remember thinking that floods were something to be taken seriously!

Dear D-Files: I tried to click on the Disaster log to relate any personal experiences with a disaster but it kept linking up with this e-mail page so i guess I'll do it here. When I was little, living on the East Coast in Bethesda, Maryland, we used to have a lot of severe thunderstorms, esp. in the summer. They are not usually that devastating (unless you get hit by lightening!) and I don't think they're usually considered a "natural disaster", but to my poor mother, they WERE! She was TERRIFIED of them and used to drag my sister and me downstairs onto a a bare matress in our basement in the middle of the night to wait out the storm.

I experienced Hurricane Bob, which passed 10 miles off the Maine Coast while we were staying at my parents' house in Old Orchard Beach a few years ago. Like President Bush (who was in office at the time and visiting his beach house in Maine), we ignored the evacuation orders and stayed near the shore as the hurricane neared. We even went down to the beach to watch the waves and feel the spray of rain and salt water on our faces. To our surprise, the wind was blowing so hard that sand was blasting our faces too. The waves came right up to the boardwalk, which is 15-20 feet above normal sea level. An interesting thing happened as the eye of the storm passed just east of us: we noticed a dramatic switch in the wind, nearly 180 degrees. That's because the eye is the center of the storm's circular wind pattern. When it passed us, we were on the other side of the circle, and the wind was blowing the other way. We were a bit disappointed that we didn't get to see the eye of the storm. Supposedly, it can be sunny and calm at the center of a hurricane, with dark clouds and rain visible all around you. Maybe someday we'll see the eye of the storm. But then, Bob was not a very severe hurricane when it passed Maine. Hurricanes can be extremely destructive and deadly, so maybe wishing to see the eye of the storm isn't such a great idea after all.

Hi D.I.B. Team. Thanks to all your hard work down the stretch, this page turned out pretty nicely, didn't it? I especially like that each of your pages are unique yet coherent with the main theme of the page. It was fun working with you and watching your knowledge and talent grow. I can't wait to see what you'll be doing with your GeoCities pages this summer! It's been fun spending time with you. See you online!
