This is one of the most famous images of the earth,
taken by the Apollo 17 crew on their way to the moon on December 7, 1972. The picture shows Africa and Saudi Arabia. It was also the first time ever possible to take a photo with a view of the South Pole.
This photomosaic of the moon, Earth's only satellite, was taken by the spacecraft Clementine on March 15, 1994. The bright spot at the bottom is the crater, Tycho.
