Cats are members of the family called Felidea. Cats split from other mammals about 40,000,000 years ago, because of this they have become one of the oldest mammal families.
Cats eat strictly meat, so they are called carnivores. They need around 30% protein in their diet. They dont digest grains, fruits or vegetables well at all. Cats are designed to live by hunting. If you have a cat at home you probably know that they have sharp teeth and claws that draw back into skin pockets in their paws. They also have very powerful jaws. You have probably also figured out that they hate water.

Cats with white fur and skin on their ears, can very easily get sunburn. If they get sunburn all the time, then it can lead to skin cancer. Many cats with this problem have had to have surgery to remove all or part of the ear with cancer.
If your cat happens to eat a flea, it can cause tapeworms. If you dont make an appointment with your vet to take care of this, it can live inside your cat forever. Cats with these tapeworms should be de-wormed by a vet.
Cats can also get tapeworms by eating mice. If your cat does happen to catch a mouse, you should probably take it away from him.
There is a type of parasitic worm that can live in your cats stomach. They can cause daily vomiting.
There is a disease that is called Toxoplasmosis, that humans can catch from cats. If you are pregnant you shouldn't clean the litter box. It can cause you to catch this disease and could even cause birth defects on your baby. You could also catch this disease by cleaning the litter box, if you have a depressed immune system.
Cats have an eyelid inside their outer eyelid. It is called a nictitating membrane. It helps to protect their eyes from the weather and damage. When your cat gets sick this inner- eyelid will show some around the eyes.
By looking into a cats eyes you can tell what their mood is. If your cat is frightened or excited, then their pupil will be large and round. If your cat is angry, then their pupil will be narrow.
The female cat carries her babies for 58 to 65 days. A little over two months.
Its fine to feed your cat table scraps or special treats, but not regularly because cats cant get enough protein from these foods alone.
Cats dont eat meals, they snack all day.
Its not good to give your cat one certain food all the time. If you decide to give them another food, they may not eat it.

Even though your cat should have a meat- based diet, too much fresh meat is not healthy.
You also shouldnt feed your cat dog food. It doesnt have enough vitamins for your cat to live on.
