Hi! Glad you could make it. These are pictures of my horse Lil Gold Imprimis. I call him Bud for short. In 1997 at the County Fair I received a First Place Blue Ribbon on Achievement Day. This was my project.

What I wanted everyone to know was that there is a lot more to horsemanship than just riding your horse. We learn many things about how to take care of our horse. Here are just a few of them.

In my grooming box I have three brushes. A soft one, a stiff one, and one called a curry brush. I also have shampoo and conditioner. I carry a hoof pick and a regular comb. Having a can of fly spray is a good idea too. Horses really don't like flies biting them. A healthy horse is one that is groomed everyday.

When you brush your horse, you should always brush the same way the hair grows. Use a soft curry first on the body. Then follow this with a hard brush. This removes most of the dirt. Finish up with a soft brush for shine. Use a comb on the mane and tail.

Here I am using what is called a hoof pick. Sometimes horses will get a rock stuck in their hoofs and this is painful. After riding I always clean them out and then apply a hoof dressing, like Rain Maker. This is a conditioner that keeps the hoofs from cracking. It keeps the moisture in the hoofs.

You guessed it, ME. If you don't do this job and leave horse manure on the floor, your trailer floor could rot. Another reason is because manure is sometimes slippery and not only will you slip but your horse might slip too and that wouldn't be a good thing.

This is the part I like the most, just me and my horse. A nice sunny day, no clouds in the sky and no worries in my mind. As you can see it is a lot of work to own a horse, but it is a lot of fun too.
