Snowboarding!!!
Since 1982 Stratton Mountain (in Vermont)
has been hosting the US Open Snowboarding Championships. It is the
largest snowboarding event in North America. Last year the
competition drew over 10,000 spectators and 280 competitors. Now that
snowboarding is an Olympic sport, the USA Open Snowboarding
Championships is going to be a lot more popular. The USA Open
Snowboarding Championship is happening March 19-22,1998, so by the
time you read this, it will be over! I tried snowboarding and found
out that I'm NOT going to be in the US Open Snowboarding
Championships for a very long time! The events are Super-G, Duel
Salom, Boardcross and Halfpipe. What's
Halfpipe?! Halfpipe is where the competitors go over a U shaped track
and do jumps off the sides. After they're done, the judges give the
snowboarders scores depending on how creative and fancy the run was.
This is what a Halfpipe track looks like :
This Halfpipe is from Killington in
Vemont.

If you saw the Olympics you probably know
that Ross Powers won a bronze medal. But did you know that he's from
South Londonderry, Vermont. Ross won a medal in the Halfpipe
competition (please don't make me go over what Halfpipe is again but
click here if you don't remember what Halfpipe is). If you are
a skier that would like to switch to snowboarding... Vermont is the
place for you. Or you skiers that think snowboarding is cool but are
afraid to try it ... Vermont's still the place for you. And for you
triple black diamond snowboarders ... I bet you can guess what I'm
going to say next and if you can't here's what I was going to say,
Vermont is STILL the place for you. If you aren't that far away from
Vermont you should come and try snowboarding here. If you're the kind
of person who likes adventures in the great outdoors you should come
north, south, east or west to Vermont. Snowboarding in Vermont is an
adventure (that hurts like crazy the next morning). Dare ya!!!
