The Slaves of Spengel By Daniel Pinkwater starts like this. Norman Blesfit and his friend own a restaurant called the Magic Moscow. They get captured and taken to the planet Spengel. There they are forced to compete against other cooks from the other sides of the galaxy. The space pirates are all fat and wear leisure suits and white plastic shoes. Norman wins second place and gets 600 pounds of Blue Spengillian garlic. He is then transported home and he lives happily ever after.
I think the author did a good job of making you laugh. Like when he described the pirates in the beginning. He also used lots of made-up words especially when he told about the spacecraft. He did a good job of making it exciting, especially in the end. The description was also good during the beginning.
