Can Dennis Help A Ghost?
Well, in Pleasing the Ghosts Dennis, a nine year old boy, has a parade of ghosts ride the wind in to his bedroom to visit him. This started happening ever since his father died, but he doesn't mind: they're all nice to him.
One day he is visited by a ghost dressed in green boats, blue trousers, purple sweater and a red cowboy hat. Later he discovers it is his Uncle Arvie. No biggie, Dennis thinks. Until Dennis discovers that his Uncle wants something from him. The catch is he speaks his own language, like could you understand a phrase like "Yin, yin, yin! Fraggle pin Heartfoot a wig pasta" (page 19)
Uncle Arvie needs three things done, but he can't do them himself, so that's where Dennis comes in. Arvie will not leave him alone until they are done. On the way of completing the three things he runs into his arch enemy Billy. Dennis tells him that his Uncle Arvie is a ghost and can fly. Billy doesnąt at all believe in ghosts. So now Dennis has to prove to Billy that he can fly, but sometimes Arvie is occupied and can't fly, which only leads to Billy doing bad things to Dennis.
Can Dennis help his Uncle Arvie get the three things he needs done, and have him fly for Dennis so Billy will stop doing bad things? Also is there anything for Dennis and or his family if he completes everything? Find out and read Pleasing The Ghosts.
I thought this book was great! It was a fun page turner. I really liked the plot and the characters were described well!
