Have you ever thought of what the world would be like if it was the same routine everyday, things looking the same, in other words COMPLETE SAMENESS?

The book The Giveris about a young boy named Jonas who lives in a community. Each day he gets up and goes through his regular routine until the community has The Ceremony. In The Ceremony each group was announced a number higher then they already are. Like Jonas was to be announced a 12 and Lily his younger sister was to be announced an 8. When you are a 12 you are given your job in the community and after 12 you never count what you are again.

When Jonas goes to his Ceremony of 12 he is very worried and excited. He is given the number 19, the number he was given when he was "born." When the Master of Ceremonies went from 18 to 20, skipping Jonas, Jonas got worried "What had he done wrong?" Or does he have something special to do? He saw an elder with gray eyes like himself and there was a gleam in his eye. He had never seen him before. He must be the one that they call the Receiver of Memories. Or to him in the future The Giver. If you want to know what it means to be The Giver READ THE BOOK!!!

I loved this book more than any other book. Does that tell you anything? Through out the book you learn exactly how much the community is controlled think that the author has great way capturing the reader and giving cliffhangers at the end of very chapter. The author has a great technique of intriguing the characters and through that intriguing the reader.
