Kara is the only one who has ever survived the vermillion fever. When she was four years old she came down with it and her parents, thinking there was no cure, left her in a cave to die. A month later she walked back into her parentıs house as strong and healthy as she had been before the fever. Only something was different, her eyes ,which used to be blue are now a dark green, Kara also calls out a name in her sleep, Flagra, a dragon name.
A few months later her parents discover another thing altered. Kara can call down birds. Rumors started circulating that Kara had been nursed back to health by a dragon who had lost her litter of draclings.
Now eleven years later Kara has been summoned by King Orrick to call down dragons for him to kill. He called for her because it was said that dragons and birds are somehow related. She is reluctant to go because she doesnıt know if she can do it. She finally goes to the palace across the sea where she meets Gudjen, the kingıs sister. Gudjen makes a steam working which reveals a dragon to her, and a gyr falcon.
