"Until you have felt fear, you can not imagine it. Once you have really felt it, you know tour earlier nervousness was but a pale shadow......"

Jean Wainright is an orphan, adopted by her aunt. She lived and learned at her aunt's boarding school ever since she was just a tiny child. Then, Mr. Theil sends a letter to her aunt. He needs a young woman to come sort out the papers in the attic. He specifically asks for Jean. Jean decides to take up the job for the summer.

When she arrives at the countryside mansion, she is greeted by Mr. Thiel and his maid, Mrs. Bywall. She meets many people on her daily walks and soon enough finds out a horrible secret. She finds out that Mr. Thiel's wife is dead. The court declared it an accident but Jean thinks otherwise. To Jean, it seems like murder.

Over the summer Jean gets more clues from the people she meets, and from the papers and letters in the attic boxes. She not only discovers things about Mr. Theil and his dead wife, but finds out much more about herself and the strange people around her.

If you are the kind of person who really enjoys a mystery, or even if you just like any good book, I think you should read this novel. It is exciting and wonderful, and no matter who you are ,I think you should try this book. This is a page turner you'll probably really enjoy!
