Billy is a young boy whose family doesn't have alot of money . Billy and his family live in Cherokee country . He hears dog fights all the time outside his house . Billy saves one of the dogs but lets him go the next day . Billy wants a dog so bad he will do anything for two hounds to hunt with . He begs his father but his father says no because he doesn't think Billy is ready . Billy keeps bugging his parents for some hounds . His father got him some mouse traps . He caught all kinds of animals except for coons . Billy's cat kept getting caught in the traps and eventually only stayed in the house and ate .
Billy decides to look into a price for two hounds . Billy finds a deal for two hounds . The two dogs cost fifty dollars . Billy starts to save up for the dogs by selling crawfish , minnows , and animal skins . He saves up and two years later he had enough money . Billy's grandpa said "How long have you been saving this ?" Billy told his grandpa "two years ." Billy's grampa was so impressed he gave him a bag of candy . The bag wasn't a ten cent bag it was a twenty-five cent bag .
Billy had to go far away into the city to pick up his dogs . When he got them he was so happy . He named them Old Dan and Little Ann .
Billy and his dogs went on alot of adventures that were very exciting . They get into alot of problems . Billy trains his dogs to be the best hunting dogs around .
I thought this book was very good . It had alot of adventures in it and it made you want to read more . I donšt think there were any bad parts about the book.
