Gwen is a 12 year old girl with brown hair and brown eyes. She is living with her aunt and her older brother. When the aunt dies, Gwen has no place to go. Dena, a nice lady, offers a home but Gwen doesn't want to go but is forced.

When Gwen reaches Mercy Manor, she loves the house and family. When a strange girl ghost, Rose, beckons Gwen to follow her into a dark cellar, Gwen gets scared out of her mind.

Nobody believes Gwen's ghost stories and Dena's husband says if she keeps on talking about ghosts she'll have to leave. The ghosts seem to be connected to one summer when Dena was a little girl. Even though it means losing her new family Gwen is determined to find out what Rose wants.
