Imagine being in 1943 when the Nazis are on every corner of your street. They are very mean and they will take you to concentration camp. They will go into your apartment or house and take you in. Imagine if you were a Jew and you were caught. Imagine if you were a Catholic child and your dad had to go to war and you thought that you would never see him again.

Ten year old Annemarie and her friend Ellen have to live with this. They live in Copenhagen. Ellen is Jewish and Annemarie is Catholic. Annemarie's dad is out to war. Ellen is very scared of the Nazi soldiers and so is Annemarie but not as much as Ellen. Ellen is going with Annemariešs family to go to their house in Denmark to pretend that she is apart of the family. "See the land? Way across there? That's Sweden." (Page 62). Ellen, her family and other people are going try to escape from Denmark and go to Sweden. Will Ellen and everybody else escape? Read the book to find out.

I thought that the book was very good. It was one of the best books I've ever read. If there was a rating from 1-10, I'd give it a 10. The book was very interesting because Išve never read about the Holocaust.
