What You Need To Know About Them

Bicycle Road Racing

The first bicycle was made in France in the 1700's - without pedals or wheels!

If you train by biking long distances, have strong legs, have excellent wind, and have good bike control, you equal a good racer.

Bowling

The beginning of bowling was in the Stone Age, but the beginning of modern bowling was in the early 1900's.

You need accurate aim to be a good bowler.

Distance Running

In 490 B.C, Pheidippedes, a Greek soldier, ran all the way from Marathon to Athens to tell of the Greek victory over the Persian. Pheidippedes ran 26.2 miles 

 To be good at distance running, you need to know how to train correctly, and have the courage to enter a race and finish it, no matter what your place.

Golf

Golf started about 2000 years ago.

Technique, accuracy, strength, being able to putt the ball correctly, and being able to swing the club correctly, are important to being a good golfer.

Tennis

Tennis was invented by in England in 1873 by Walter Wingfield.

Good head work, concentration, footwork and arm work equal a good tennis player.

Platform Tennis

Platform tennis was invented by James Cogswell and Fessenden Blanchard in 1928.

Strategy, having sharp reflexes, being quick of foot, and having good stamina helps in being an all around great platform tennis player.

Table Tennis

According to some records, table tennis was first played in 1890 using homemade materials.

To be a good table tennis player you need to be in good physical condition, have good balance, good stamina, and be levelheaded.

Speed Ice-Skating

Speed ice-skating began in the 200 as a way of getting across frozen lakes and rivers.

You need to know how to skate well and race well to be a great speed ice-skater.

Speed Roller-Skating

Roller skating's big break came in 1979 when it was included in the Pan American Games for the first time.

If you know how and when to pass your competitors, know how to get off to a quick start and get around corners, you're probably a great speed roller-skater.
