Memory is made up of two main parts:RAM and ROM. RAM stands for Random Access Memory andis a chip inside the computer. Information can be read and written on thechip from all parts of the computer while a programis running. Unlike ROM, RAM is a temporary storage area forprograms, data, etc. and once the computer is shut down everything in RAMis erased.
    Rom stands for Read Only Memory andcontains permanent data and functions. ROM includes start-upprograms and allows the microprocessor to operate the computer. When acomputer is shut down all data written in ROM willremain there and can not be edited. Because RAM's storage area istemporary, ROM is highly important in running the computer.
