Most Northern South American holidays are Christian holidays since South America was conquered by the Spanish. Most of the Northern South Americans are Christian. Most of the countries which including Peru,Ecuador, Colombia,Venezuela,Guyana,Surinam,and French Guiana celebrate Christian holidays such as Easter,and Christmas.Also most of the countries celebrate Carnival or Mardi Gras.
This Country has a lot of mountains. Even if most holidays are mostly Christian, some holidays are Inca. The Inca were people who ruled the Andes mountain area until the Spanish came. They believed the sun was god and their ruler was his son.
Usually in June-Corpus Christi:This festival honors the saints, Jesus, and Mary. After church the men put the statues of Mary, Jesus, and saints on long logs and carry them in a parade.
June 24-Inti Raymi:This holiday is an Inca holiday. This holiday was celebrated long before the Spanish came. In the holiday lots of people go to the old Inca fort Sacsayhuaman near Cuzco.There priests pretend to kill a llama to offer the Sun God. Originally the llama was actually killed.
Columbia is also mostly Christian and celebrates Easter and Christmas.they also celebrate Corpus Christi just as Peru. They also have many other Christian holidays.
Most of Venezuela is also Christian.Around Lent-Carnival (Mardi Gras): This holiday is the biggest holiday in Venezuela. Like the one in New Orleans,USA it is a big colorful parade with confetti,food,and singing and dancing.
This country is too a Christian country and celebrates Easter and Christmas. Ecuador also celebrates Corpus Christi like Peru and Columbia.
A lot different from the other countries Brazil is covered with jungle.Most of Brazil is either Christian or a African religion. Brazil also celebrates Carnival.2nd Thursday of January-Lavagem do Bonfim: This religion is part Catholic and part Candomble' ,an African religion. People go to Bonfim church in Salvador. There people listen to bands and dance. The priestesses clean the church till it's perfectly clean.
