 Octopus

The octopus is a very cool animal of the sea for many reasons. In recent studies it has been shown that a baby octopus has the intellect to open a jar of food. Animals may be smarter than we thought. Despite how they are portrayed in books as being all fierce, bold and mean, in real life they are scared. That's why they squirt their black ink. There are over 150 species of octopi in the world's seas. Of all these species some might live 3 miles (5 km) under the surface of the ocean! The can grow to a length of anywhere from 30 cm (1 ft) to 10 m.

 

 Portuguese Man-of-War

The Portuguese man-of-war is one of the prettiest marine or water animals in the world. Most of them are blue, but there are pictures of a reddish, pinkish, purplish one. The man-of-war is actually a colony of several different individuals. These colonies tend to live in the tropical and subtropical waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The man-of-war can grow to be 30 cm (1 ft) long

 

 Starfish

The starfish is a common ocean animal that is easily recognized by the simple shape of its body. These simple shaped creature come in many colors. One unusual thing about the starfish is that it eats its prey by taking its stomach out of its body. Starfish are echinoderms.

 

Whale Shark

The whale shark is the largest fish in the world that is still living. There was one caught off the coast of Florida in the 1900's that weighed about forty thousand pounds. Whale Sharks get very few diseases and they have very few enemies.

 

 Clown Fish

The clown fish are very amazing animals. They live with sea anemones for protection from bigger fish. They are protected by the stinging tentacles of the sea anemones. Clown fish eat fish smaller than themselves.

 

 Jelly Fish

Jelly Fish are very interesting animals. They eat organisms from as small as plankton to as big as other jelly fish which are 3 mm to 2 meters long. Not all jelly fish swim. Some just glide along and let the current carry them. Not all jelly fish are poisonous.

 

 Coral

There are many kinds of coral in all the world. They grow in many shapes, sizes, and colors, even unusual colors like purple and pink. Though many people think that coral is a plant it is actually an animal. Corals feed on plankton--tiny floating plants.

 

 Dolphins

Dolphins are very graceful animals. They sometimes reach the length of 3 m (9 ft) and the weight of 200 kg (440 lb) . They are predators and they feed on live food except when trained not to. They eat mostly fish such as herring,mackerel, and sardines. Some would rather eat squid,shrimp,and even mollusk shells that have been found in their stomachs. Most dolphins can be found in seas and oceans but some can be found in fresh water.

 

 Puffers

Puffers are very amazing animals. There are about 120 to 130 species of puffers in the world. They are called Puffers because they have the ability to inflate their stomachs with water or air to make them twice their original size. Most Puffers can be found around corral reefs or similar structures in tropical waters.There are 6 to 7 species living off the coast of the United States. Ones found around the coast of Florida have been 35 centimeters long.
