Some animals were made to look alive before serving at the table. Feathers were replaced onto the bird after it was cooked. Sometimes the fur of the cooked animal covered the meat!
On Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and during Lent the people were served fish.
Forks were almost unknown.
Two people shared a plate or cup.
Flat pieces of bread, called trenchers, were used for plates. If the trenchers weren't eaten, they would be given to the poor or to the dogs.
Milk was mainly used for baking, not drinking.
