Foods of the Middle Ages

Beef and mutton (sheep)were the main meat dishes.Venison (deer) was eaten after a good hunt. Because there was no refrigeration, meat spoiled fast, so they preserved it by salting and drying it.When the meat started to spoil, they would just pour a sauce over it to make it taste better and eat it anyway! Meat might be eaten with vegetables such as onions, garlic, and herbs from the castle garden.

They also ate poultry, eggs, wild birds, and game.
