The Kitchen

In the kitchen heat was produced by fire. Sometimes accidental fires could be disastrous so the kitchen was sometimes built separately from the castle so that the castle would not be affected by any fires.

Back in medieval times cooking pots had metal legs so that they could stand on the fire. Some of the tools used were a skimmer, an apple corer, a cleaver, a jug, and a fleshook.

A skimmer was used to remove small items from a cauldron without getting its user burnt.

The fleshook was used to cook meat.
