A cats uses its tongue for cleaning and eating. It has a rough surface. The rough parts are called papillae. The papillae are used to help scrape meat off of bones. The tongue can also be used for scooping up water or to comb fur. When a cat combs its fur, it spreads its scent over its body. It also helps the cat to relax.
