AMAZING ORCAS

SEA SHOW

It is not known for sure why orcas jump and breech. They might just be playing or showing off their incredible strength. Orcas are active, but do rest sometimes. When they do rest, they stay together as a pod close to the surface. A rest can last from a couple of minutes to a couple of hours, but never what we would call a good night's sleep.

This page may take a minute to load because of a great slide show at the bottom of the page.

Breaching

When a whale breaches its a whales way of saying

"Hey Everyone"

But sometimes the whale is just showing off.

Sounding

Sounding is the same as diving.

A whale takes lots of little breaths then takes a huge last breath and goes down.

Spy Hopping

It is called spy hopping beacuse the whale jumps half way out of the water [Hopping] and looks around for prey. [spy].
