Mr. Phil Biggs is the Technology Coordinator for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District. Mr. Biggs took a trip to Prudhoe Bay in the spring of 1997. He traveled with other teachers from the school district to learn more about the science of the oil industry. Here are some things we learned about Prudhoe Bay from him. Mr. Biggs was a really nice man to interview. It was fun learning more about Prudhoe Bay.
- We learned that there is an instrument called a pig that they put into the pipeline. It has a computer inside of it and helps to make sure that there is nothing blocking the oil from flowing through the pipeline.
- We learned that there are about 3 or 4 thousand people that work in Prudhoe Bay.
- There are a lot of buildings there. Some are places where the workers live. Others are stores, and buildings that different oil companies have.
- The animals that they saw in Prudhoe Bay are birds, arctic foxes, and bears.
Here are some of the pictures that Mr. Biggs took in Prudhoe Bay.

![]() While working in Prudhoe Bay, the workers have nice rooms to stay in. They also have a rec center with a swimming pool. Mr. Biggs told us that the food they have there is great! |

Here is a picture of the pipeline going underground. They designed the pipeline to go both above and below ground, as well as in a zig zag pattern, to help it survive earthquakes and to help the animals. |
