Chicago Damage and Death

18,000 buildings were destroyed. Only skeletons of buildings remained. 2,000 acres were left useless which is 3 1/2 square miles.200 million dollars of property were destroyed.
73 miles of street were destroyed
Between 90,000 and 100,000 people were left homeless. It killed at least 300 people.. 40,000 people left Chicago and moved to new citys. Other people planned to rebuild their houses.
The fire raged for over 24 hours. The center of the city was destoyed , includ ing all of the important government buildings and their important papers, the railroads depots, elegant hotels, factories, businesses all were in charred ruins and ashes.
