Task Force Escort Ships

Other ships that escort aircraft carriers are; Destroyers, Frigates, and Submarines. They all travel in groups. These groups are called Task Forces. An aircraft Carrier’s planes provide the long rage defense. But the ships provide most of the mid and short range defense. Cruisers mainly use missiles for defense, but if enemy ships are in short range they would use their four and five inch guns. To destroy enemy submarines,they use Anti-submarine rockets, torpedoes and depth charges. To destroy mid range ships and aircraft they use missiles. They would also use missiles for mid range ground attack. The missiles they would use for defense against ships are Harpoon surface-to-surface missiles and Anti-submarine rockets. The missiles they would use for defense against aircraft are Standard surface-to-air missiles. The missiles they would use for ground attack are Tomahawk cruise missiles.
