A-4 Skyhawk

The A-4 was first flown in 1954 as an attack, trainer, and aggressor. It was also a Blue Angel. Because it was so small the wings did not fold while aboard the carrier. The A-4 was also designed to deliver nuclear weapons but luckily it never had to perform that task.

In Vietnam the Skyhawk was the main bomber delivering Shrike or Anti Radiation missiles and other various bombs, rockets, and missiles. Since the A-4 could carry 8200 lb of explosives it happened to be very successful.

On Oct. 15, 1955 at over 500 km LT Gorden Gray set the record in an A-4 at 695.193 mph at an altitude at 100 meters.

The A-4 does not all ways go as an attack aircraft, it is also an in-air re-fueler carrying external fuel tanks if in short range of a carrier.

The A-4 was in its production for 23 years serving the U.S. Navy And Marines, but it also served on many different carriers.
