Iguana Habits by Shadin

Iguana are social animals that have many different habits.  Some species of iguana swim while others remain on land.  Iguanas are prey for other animals, therefore they must be very alert in order to survive.
Their daily routine goes something like this.  First they begin to move to a sunny area where they sit in the sun until their bodies are warm enough to move to a different area to find some food.  After a few hours of climbing and searching for food, they bask in the sun in order for their bodies to be warm enough to digest their food.  At night they go back to their homes in the trees or borrows.
Marine iguanas are very good swimmers.  When they swim they hold their feet to the sides of their bodies and use their tails to move through the water.
Land iguanas eat leaves and vegetables.  They also eat flies and other insects which means they are not strict vegetarians.  They are omnivores.
During the day they have to look out for bigger iguanas and other animals that think iguanas are part of their diet.  The ones that really have to look out are the baby iguanas who are usually on the bottom of the food chain, of birds and many other animals.
