Jobs Horses Do

 

For many years horses have been helping people do jobs. Horses are strong and can move quickly. Before engines were invented horses helped us travel. We now use machines for almost everything. For instance, plowing horses used to help farmers plow their fields. Today farmers use tractors to do this job. There are other jobs horses still do. Today many people have horses as pets. Horses are also used by policemen for crowd control.

Horses are used in parades and rodeos. In parades horses might have on fancy blankets and have their hooves painted different colors.
There are also different kinds of herding horses like the Australian Stock Horse, Crillo, Camargue, Maremmana, Quarter horse, and the Timor Pony. These are all used for herding cattle, sheep, and other herd animals.

Many people have horses as pets. They use them for trail riding.

Polo ponies are used for playing polo. These ponies can stop, start, and turn quickly and fast. They also are trained to listen to your commands and signals.

Horse racing is very popular. A jockey rides the horse. A very well known horse race is the Kentucky Derby.

The Belmont stakes, Kentucky Derby and the Preakness races are known as the "Triple Crown".
