We interviewed Brian Randazzo. Brian was in Kenai demonstrating the different NYO events. He holds the world record in the 1 and 2 foot high kick. Brian has gone to Canada 5 times to participate in the Arctic Winter Games.

He started participating in NYO in high school. Brian joined NYO because there weren't many Alaskan Natives at his Anchorage high school and he didn't feel comfortable playing basketball or wrestling. NYO helped Brian set goals, work with other people and get through some rough times his family was going through.

After spending a few hours with Brian we learned to do lots of the different events. Before doing any of them you have to make sure you are stretched out and warmed up. Brian surprised us how good he is at jump roping. Jump roping helps Brian train for his events. It helps him build muscles in his legs. We think that Brian is a great athlete when it comes to Native Youth Olympics. Most people get good at one thing, but Brian is good at all of the events.
