Mending a Net

A net consists of the following parts:

Cork line this helps to float the net

Web the net itself

Lead line this holds the bottom down and keeps it stretched out.

On this page you will learn how to mend a fishing net if it gets a hole in it. These holes are caused by such things as fish (usually king salmon), fish picks and sharp rocks.

Here is a picture of a good net.

Below you can see a hole in the net which we will mend using a special needle called a mending needle. This needle holds mending twine of the same material as the net. We will use special knots to get this job done. We will use the beckett knot to get started.

The Process:

Using the beckett knot we tie into a loose string hanging down. Then you go from mesh to mesh and attach them together using the mending knots until the holes are all closed.
