Adulthood

Before getting a job, people with Down syndrome need to learn skills for getting and keeping a job. They need to learn good work habits like getting along with co-workers and how to keep their jobs. Having a job makes people feel good about themselves. It makes a person feel like they are important. Recreational activities and friendships are also important. People with Down syndrome who have finished school and job training may leave home. Community programs make it possible for adults with Down syndrome to live as independently as possible. There are a lot of documented cases of adults with Down syndrome holding jobs.
