The Athabaskans of Interior Alaska live here because of the rivers and valleys along with high mountains.
Athabaskan people use to be nomadic and they would follow the moose and caribou. Since Athabaskans used to be nomadic, there never were any permanent villages. All they were interested in was hunting for survival. When there were a lot of wild animals the Athabaskans did well. When there were no wild animals to hunt, the Athabaskans were hungry and starving. They also depended on salmon from the following rivers: Yukon, Kuskokwim, Koyukuk, Porcupine, Tanana and lot of other rivers. The Athabaskans liked to trade with the Eskimos. Most of the time they liked to trade seal oil for meat and they also traded furs with the Eskimos.
The Athabaskans used to live in Canada but a war drove them out of Canada into Alaska approximately 800 years ago.
All of the Athabaskans have a common language but all the languages are a little bit different. This means there are a lot of different dialects.
