This part of the state is known as the Mat-Su area. The area is named after two great rivers called the Matanuska and Susitna Rivers. It is a great place to farm because the soil is good. This helps the plants grow better. The people in Anchorage call this area their 'food basket'. There are also a lot of dairies here to go along with the great vegetables.

Part of the Mat-Su valley is full of fun things to do. If you want to, you can go kayaking, swimming, hunting and do a lot of boating and rafting. There is also some great fishing in this area.

In the summer in Alaska the growing season is very short, but the days are very long. The days are longer in Alaska than anywhere else in America.
