The Inupiat Eskimos live mostly in the Arctic region in Alaska. A lot of people think they came from Siberia a long time ago when there was a land bridge between Asia and North America.
These people live on a land called tundra. Tundra is land that begins where the forests end, and it reaches all the way to the Arctic Ocean.

These Eskimos live a lot farther north than other Alaskan Natives. Some of the Inupiat Eskimos hunt bowhead whales. They hunt in skin covered boats, and use harpoons while they are whaling.

The women spend their time sewing and making birch bark baskets. These baskets are very hard to make. They peel the birch bark from trees and soak them, and then they sew them into baskets. Inupiat Eskimos live in small villages that their ancestors lived in for hundreds of years. They also live in larger towns built on top of ancient trading sites. One of those larger villages is called Barrow. |
