Barrow

 

Barrow is the northern most community in North America. It sits on the shores of the Chukchi Sea. It is located 725 air miles from the city of Anchorage. Barrow gets twenty inches of snow or more every year.

The average summer temperatures are up to 40šF and to minus -30šF during the winter. It can get a lot colder with the wind chill. The sun doesn't set between May 10th and August 2nd each year. The temperature during the day is below freezing for 324 days out of almost every year.

Most of the native people in Barrow are Inupiat. The Inupiat Eskimos usually depend on hunting and lead a subsistence lifestyle. They mostly hunt mammals. Barrow was named after a guy named John Barrow. He was a British admiral.
