Hello, I am the cyber spirit of Virginia Dare. I was born August 18, 1587. My parents are Ananais and Eleanor Dare. My mother is the daughter of John White, who was the governor of Roanoke Colony.
When my parents left England on May 6, 1587, they were excited that their child would be born in the New World. They sailed with a group of men, women, and children on a big ship.
On July 22, 1587, the group anchored their ships in the New World and took small boats to an island that came to be known as Roanoke Island. That was where I was born. I was very fair skinned and had light strawberry blond hair when I was born. You know, I am the first English child born in the New World. I was named Virginia in honor of this new colony known as Virginia. I probably was the first English person to be part of an English christening ceremony in America.
My grandfather, John White the Governor, left us on the island. On August
27, 1587, he sailed for England to get us supplies and food. Unfortunately,
he could not come back until 1590 when I was three. When my grandfather
finally came back to Roanoke, he couldn't find me, my parents, or the other
colonists. Where did we go? I was too little to know. It makes me very sad
that I never got a chance to say good-bye to him.
