This story about tornadoes occurred in North Carolina:

Mostly the mountains take the brunt of the bad weather, but sometimes we experience tornadoes in March. In 1989 we got zonked by Hurricane Hugo. There was millions of dollars of damage to the area and our home alone had $50,000 worth of damage.

Also from North Carolina

In March of 1993 we had terrific wind and rain with the sun shining as brilliant as could be. It was very strange. Our sailboat stayed on the mooring buoy with winds gusting to eighty-five miles per hour. We had a wind instrument wired into a system which can be read in our home. Only some smaller boats which were connected by line to the dock sustained damage. Neighbors have now learned to remove all boats whenever there is a threat of this kind and ample warning.
