The Hancock-Clarke House

The Hancock-Clarke House was the home of the Reverend
and Mrs. John Hancock. When Mr. Hancock died in 1755, Reverend Jonas Clarke
took the position of minister and moved into the house. Mr. Clarke was
active in the pursuit of liberty. Many people, including John Hancock,
Samuel Adams, and Dr. Joseph Warren, turned to Reverend Jonas Clarke for
guidance. In fact, John Hancock and Samuel Adams were staying in the parlor-bedroom
as guests of Mr. Clarke when Paul Revere arrived with the warning that
the British were coming. Today the house is owned by the Lexington Historical
Society who maintain this historic landmark.
