The belfry was (and still is) an old bell tower which at one time stood on the Lexington Green , but is now located on a hill just left of the green. On April 19, 1775, the bell-tolling from this bell tower awoke Sylvanus Wood of Woburn, who would soon take some of the first British prisoners.
