Problems Along the Trail

A moose can be the biggest problem along the trail. Moose like to stay on well packed snow like people do. To a dog team a moose is dangerous along the trail. The moose in Alaska, where it is cold in the winter time, don't really think anything of plowing into a dog team. Just one moose can weigh 1600 pounds. The moose can kick, stomp and tangle up the dogs. Moos can kill people and dogs. Some mushers carry guns to protect themselves. Mushers are reluctant to spend time dressing out a killed moose when they are trying to win the GREAT RACE!
