Volunteering

All aspects of the race are supported by people who volunteer. From the start to the finish of the race, there are volunteers along the trail.

Volunteers include checkers, veterinarians, pilots, trail markers, lodging providers, ham radio operators, and dog handlers at the end of the trail.

In 1997 there were 1,700 volunteers involved with the race. To be a volunteer you need to fill out an application for different areas. Coordinators organize the volunteers. Applications for the 1998 race were due by February 1, 1998.
