The trail is marked by volunteers who cut down the brush, the deadfall, and basically get rid of the most dangerous speed bumps. Some of this happens before the race.
During the race there are three snowmachine crews. One crew will work the front clearing the trail, building bridges, and making the route. The second crew stays close to the front running mushers to break trail in case it snows. The third crew will bring up the rear.
