Description
of the Liver
The whole liver together weighs 3-4 pounds.
It is from a light pink to a dark red color. The liver is located
right below the heart. The liver is a very big organ. The liver and
gallbladder are responsible for a number of functions. One of the
main functions is to help in digestion.
Function
Blood passes through the liver at the rate of 1.4 liters per minute.
The liver holds about 10% of all the blood of the body. The liver
stores iron, copper, vitamin A, many of the B-complex vitamins, and vitamin
d. The liver helps the heart pass blood to get to every part of the
body. the liver is very important to stay alive.
Diseases
of the Liver
under a microscope, liver tissue looks like pink lines and dots.
If the liver is bad it looks like slanted lines and small dots. If
the liver is good, the color is reddish pinkish to a dark red. If
the liver is bad, the color is very light pink.
