Elizabeth Cady Stanton was born on November 12 in Johnstown New York. She was famous for Women's rights. Please read on to hear about her life.
Elizabeth graduated from Troy Female Seminary in 1832. In 1840 she married an abolitionist by the name of Henry Stanton. The Stantons went to London so Mr. Stanton could attend The Anti Slavery Convention. Elizabeth was outraged at the convention because it excluded women's rights. That's when Elizabeth and Lucretia Mott decided to organize a women's rights convention. The Stantons moved to Seneca Falls, N.Y. so Elizabeth and Lucretia could carry out their plan.
The convention was held on July 19-20 in 1848. It attracted over 300 people! Elizabeth Cady Stanton then complained that there was not enough of women rights. She began to write articles for Amelia Bloomers paper. This is where she met Susan B. Anthony. They became partners and from then on Susan campaigned and Elizabeth wrote articles and speeches.
In 1952 she founded The New York State Women's Temperance Society. Elizabeth protested women discrimination in papers. When she figured out the papers were not working, Susan and Elizabeth founded the National Woman Suffrage Association in 1869.
Elizabeth went on to do many other things. She was president of the National American Woman Suffrage association and she published many books such as The History of Woman Suffrage, The Women's Bible and Eighty Years and More.
Elizabeth died on November 12, 1902 in New York City. She will always be known as a great women.
