Orangutan

   The orangutan belongs to the Pongidae family.  The scintific name of the orangutan is Pongo pygmeaus.  This mammal lives in the forests of Borneo and Sumatra.

    The male adult orangutan is about 4.5 ft (1.4 m) tall.  It weighs around 150 lbs. (70 kg.).  The arm of an orangutan is about 3.5 ft. (1 m) long.  However, the legs are very short.  Both male and female have reddish-brown hair.

    Orangutans feed on mostly plants.  Some of the plants that they eat are leaves, and also fruit.

    Female orangutans live with their babies and other females in groups.
