Soil and Minerals

The soil and minerals were pushed down from the Northern Hemisphere when the glaciers slid down to the South Pole. As the glaciers moved along they picked up minerals and soil, dragging them very slowly and leaving them in various places as they melted. Then hills and valleys were formed, as were the Great Lakes. The lakes that were formed were: Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and lastly Lake Superior. In the forests of Moraine Valley there are many trees; all of the forests and trees came from the minerals called lignite and coal. Also pine cones were deposited thereby producing young pine trees.
