Once there was a girl Who sat a ways away from me And talked to her friends. I never really noticed her; Just another of the many faces A person passes throughout the day. Not someone to notice, To care for. But she saw me And noticed how I held myself Within my shell of self reliance And decided to care For someone who needed someone. And so she reached out And with her little hand Innocently touched my heart And called me friend. Now I saw what those who knew her saw: Not just anyone, But Somebody Special. Someone with an open smile And a tender heart Someone with a lilting laugh And magic in her voice. And I know so much more Through her that I didn't know then I have learned much From my dear Best Friend. Dedicated to a fan of Blueberries and Tangerines
