Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome
presents antique aeroplanes in their natural
setting and recaptures the
thrill and excitement of old-time flying from the
period of 1900 to
1937. Visitors to the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome can
see outstanding World
War I and earlier aircraft in action and watch
this colorful era brought
back to life amidst the roar of rotary engines and
the smell of burnt
castor oil. We pride ourselves in flying original
aircraft or
accurate copies powered with original engines.
This attraction is
situated in historic Rhinebeck, New York and can
be easily reached by
car using Taconic State Parkway or the New York
Thruway. Parking and
picnicking facilities are free. Tour our Air
Museums full of old
aeroplanes, engines, cars, etc. Bring along your
cameras - excellent
picture and video opportunities.
OLD RHINEBECK AERODROME
is open daily from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM May
15 through
October. EXCITING AIR SHOWS are held every
week-end from June 15 through
October Sunday shows
feature World War I aircraft and Saturday shows
Pioneer and Lindberg Era;
two different shows. Show time is 2:30
PM to 4:00 PM (one performance). Group visits for
the shows can be accommodated without advance
reservations. Pre-show activities with audience
participation start at 2:00 PM featuring fashion
show and
parade of old cars. Group tours are availahle
(Mon.-Fri.) by prior arrangements.
BARNSTORMING RIDES
in a 1929 open-cockpit biplane are available
before and after the shows.
Flights are approximately 15 minutes and cost
$25.00 per person.
RHINEBECK AERODROME MUSEUM
will continue the lifelong dream of
Cole Palen, its Founder, to preserve
early aviation history. Over 40 years
ago, he started collecting, restoring,
building and actually flying antique
aeroplanes and never stopped. Now
as a Foundation, Rhinebeck
Aerodrome Museum will present his
world famous Air Shows and
Aerodrome activities in the Cole
Palen tradition.
We are a Non-Profit Museum and
memberships are available and
welcome.
It is with pride and pleasure that
we share Cole Palen's dream,
aviation's rich heritage and its
colorful past.
