What animal will tear a hole in you if it's disturbed? The komodo dragon. This beast will eat anything from birds and rodents, to deer, wild boar and water buffalo including humans! Like many lizards, the komodo dragon uses its tongue to smell and can detect carrion from 5 miles away! The komodos lay up to 30 eggs and the incubation period is 7 months. The komodo dragon's babies live in trees until they are mature. Larger komodos rest in under ground burrows. The powerful komodo has no enemies except for man. These monsters can grow to a whopping 10 feet long and can weigh a killer 365 pounds. These killers live a long life of 50 years.

Did you know that the komodo dragon can be found in 7 different countries? Also there are only 3,000 komodos left in the world. The giant komodo dragon is the smartest of all reptiles in the world. The komodo dragon was only discovered in 1912. An adult komodo will eat an entire deer at one time - then sleep for a week digesting it. Young komodos hatch from their leathery, goose sized eggs fully formed.

The cause of the komodos being endangered is mainly because of habitat destruction. Another reason is that some farmers shoot komodos to protect their livestock. In order to help the komodos there are now parks with komodos on them and the parks allow tourists to watch the great komodo dragons.
