Stalking its prey in the forested wilderness of Florida, the Florida Panther pounces on prey as big as wild hogs or as small as cotton mice. Florida Panthers don't live in areas like most other large cats, they live in mostly forested areas and even cypress swamps. Did you know only 30-50 Florida panthers roam freely in the wild? Did you know out of all of the endangered species in Florida the Florida Panther is the most endangered? To raise money for the Florida Panther, Florida's government made a license plate that said "Save the Panther" and it had a picture of the Florida Panther. The Florida Panther is endangered mainly because of habitat loss. Humans keep cutting down the forested wilderness and cypress swamps that Florida Panthers call home. Another reason is that they don't have enough babies. Florida Panthers only reproduce every two years with litters or only one to four baby Florida Panthers. The Florida government is a big help for panthers. They have been trying to preserve land for Florida panthers since 1959. They have been very successful because fewer and fewer Florida Panthers are dying each day. So please encourage people to Save The Panther. |
